![I never really make New Year’s Resolutions, but this year I did. It was “start going to more shows again” (and see more new bands, even if I don’t listen to them that much or know the words to their songs, but are still good). Seen hundreds of bands & artists in the past decade, and I’m trying to break 1,000 sooner than later. This is the kind of mail I like to see—tickets to shows (and a new, 32 gig Micro SD card, cause why not?) (4/14/2013).

—Death [to All], Anciients, & Rivers of Nihil on 4/24 at Irving Plaza
—Not pictured: Ghost tickets for 5/11 with @rockmagic at Webster Hall, but we missed the entire show anyway. First time I think I ever missed an entire show.
—Next up: BLACK FLAG on 6/15 at Warsaw in Brooklyn!!

Been sick all week with a cold. Couldn’t sleep Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. @CalvinHarris ft. @Example – “We’ll Be Coming Back” is always on at the gym, and it always gets stuck in my head. So I picked up my guitar, threw it on, and started jamming to it. By early Wednesday morning, I’d written pretty much an entire new song (composition, technically, since I haven’t set lyrics to it, yet). Think old Rise Against meets late-90s alt rock/pop rock. “Nostalgia rock,” as I like to call it. Simple power chord rhythm riffs, clean melody riffs with delay, etc. Awesome, catchy stuff. Since I’m primarily a metal guitarist, my guitar is always in Drop-B since that’s @Deadtide’s tuning, so might have to transpose it to another key for another tuning at some point, but who knows haha. After years of writing metal riffs, writing other stuff becomes easier. I love it.
